Welcome back my lovelies, I hope you are all well. Sorry for the lack of posts once again, I have started my last modules at university for my final year. So it'll all a bit intense! 
For Christmas I took Andrea to Budapest for a few days in mid January.  It was our first time in Budapest and it was amazing although it was -10c!.  The first thing that I wanted to search for were places to eat and drink. On TripAdvisor I came across this bar and restaurant called Up&Down and I was automatically drawn to the beautiful aesthetic of this place. It has a mixture of urban and luxurious textures. On Up&Down's website there is an abundance of photos that show what the head chef's artistry and I knew that I had to go. 

Although the restaurant was pretty empty it didn't stop us from having a good time. I think the interior played a part in that as well as the staff being attentive. 
For starter, Andrea had a prawn salad and I had a traditional Hungarian dish which was a pastery filled with sour cream and then different toppings such as caviar, crispy bacon and a something pickled. It was similar to eating a savoury doughnut. They were a little too big for a starter, because it was heavy it was like eating a main course. 

For mains, I was stuck between two dishes so in the end, Andrea ordered one while I ordered the other. Couple goals right there. Andrea had a Lamb Pearl Barley Risotto with blueberries. I didn't know what it would taste like, but the blueberries and lamb really complimented each other, both being quite sweet flavours. Having a pearl barley base was also a nice touch as having rice can sometimes be a little heavy and can leave you feeling bloated but this didn't seem to do that. 

My dish was a Chicken Breast with Truffle Mash, White Asparagus and a Chicken BonBon. My goodness! It was delicious. Exactly what I needed after a long day walking around the city. It was warm, comforting and full of flavour. It also had a lime green dressing which I have no idea what it was but it amazing. The truffle gave the dish a real earthy flavour. 

After the starter and main course, I was actually pretty full so we opted out for dessert. I would have loved to have tried more on the menu, it had a lot of variation with contemporary European dishes and some traditional Hungarian food. Obviously, Andrea and I went mid January which is not touristy time to go, so restaurants weren't busy but I assume on Friday and Saturday nights it would be buzzing and the atmosphere would be electric. 

Also may I add, with two cocktails, starters and mains out bill came around to £40! It was an absolute bargain for somewhere so lovely. Most places in Budapest are really cheap because of the exchange rate but I was very shocked at a restaurant of that type was so reasonable when in London we would have paid double! It's in a great location right in the centre of Budapest looking out onto the chain bridge. Defiantly a great stop after a touristy day.
